Leonora Milà launches her new album dedicated to Manuel de Falla in Barcelona
On Tuesday evening, pianist and composer Leonora Milà presented her latest work ‘Milà plays Falla’, a recapitulation of all of Manuel de Falla’s works for piano, in Barcelona’s Ateneu Barcelonès auditorium. Milà regaled an audience of roughly one-hundred spectators with performances of the 'Nana', 'Cubana' and 'Danza del molinero', commonly known as ‘Farruca’, pieces included in the new CD. Milà is back, after a 13-year studio hiatus, with an album that unites recordings scattered across a number of releases and, at once, pays homage to Falla by recording his piano creations. ‘Milà plays Falla’ was born after the success of the documentary "Leonora Milà. The Intuitively Talented", which aired on Catalonia Television (TV3). The Ateneu performance was presented by actress Carme Sansa and popular singer-songwriter and gastronomist Pere Tapias. January and February will see the ‘Milà plays Falla’ promotional tour journey on to Madrid, Andorra la Vella, Girona, Lleida, Palma de Mallorca, Granada and Bilbao. ‘Milà plays Falla’ is Milà’s 30th album and breaks a discographic silence spanning almost 13 years. |

A sad piece of news. Joan Deltell Porta, husband and personal manager of Leonora Milà, died last 26th of April, aged 65. He was a well-known promoter and advocate for a wide range of cultural and entrepreneurial initiatives, but Mr. Deltell has also been the architect of Leonora Mila’s international artistic success. We owe to him the première of Tirant lo Blanc in Saint Petersburg and the numerous tours Milà went on to China People’s Republic, the United States of America, Japan, The Philippines, Germany, Hong Kong and Spain among other countries.
Deltell was born in Barcelona on 1944 and he founded the firm specialized in hiring artists and management duties Limitada Produccions, together with the record label Limit. He set up the association Àrea Musical de Catalunya, the Festival Internacional de Música de Vilanova (Vilanova’s International Music Festival), founded the publishing company Deltell & Son and set up the art gallery Carmen Torrallardona in Andorra. Joan Deltell has been side by side with Leonora Milà for more than 40 years and she has expressed her deep “sorrow for the death of such an outstanding and unique figure, loved and valued by everybody”. Relatives and friends filled up Santa Maria de la Geltrú’s church to say their last goodbyes’ to Joan Deltell.
Rest in peace, friend. You will always live on in our memory!

The North-American orchestra director and composer Gordon Wright died at the age of 72 in Indian, Alaska. Mr. Wright went to Alaska in 1969 as music director of the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. In 1989 he left that position and retired as a professor at the University of Alaska. During his tenure as music director, he took the Arctic Chamber Orchestra, an offshoot of the symphony, on tour to remote and musically bereft towns throughout the state, travelling on school buses, boats, seaplanes and even dog sleds. Concert dress sometimes included parkas.
Mr. Wright was born in Brooklyn and attended the College of Wooster in Ohio. He received a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, where he started a chamber orchestra and ran an antiquarian music bookstore. He went on to study in Berlin and in Salzburg, Austria.
Leonora Milà and Gordon Wright had the chance of working together recording J. S. Bach concertos for two, three and four pianos. With Milà as leading performer and Wright directing the Arctic Chamber Orchestra, they released a successful recording and they went on tour around Spain in the summer of 1989. Since then, the friendship between Wright, Leonora Milà and her husband and personal manager, Joan Deltell, has remained unaltered.
